I second the last comment. This charity is trying to do amazing work for some of the most disadvantaged people in south wales; sometimes against all the odds. It's not afraid to try new things and listen to ideas from staff and the people who use the services, OK - sometimes things do get difficult, and money isn't always secure (everyone knows that times are difficult for charities in a recession) but all in all a good bunch of people trying to make a difference.
One problem is that you don't get the kind of perks that you might do in the public sector - e.g. final salary pensions - but they try and help with family-friendly policies instead. But I guess it's about whether you want to try and make a difference. Some politician recently said that bankers are socially useless, so its nice to be working in an area that helps people who've had a bad deal in life.
I've tried to be realistic with the ratings - most people don't go into charity work, social services etc. for the money - so I've put this in context with similar types of work.

The Grove Hotel is beautifully located, fun place to work. Great benefits and good salaries. Problems with useless coworkers that cant be rid off. higher management seems not to know whats going on.
Very seriously under staffed. Guest is affected a lot and we run like slaves sometimes.

As a current employee who started off 7 years ago as a part time project worker, and who is not afraid to use his real name to rate Cyrenians Cymru, I have found working with the Cyrenians has afforded me a range of experiences and training opportunities that very few companies in the private or public sector would offer. They have shown compassion and enabled me to work flexibly when family illness required. They have fought tooth and nail to ensure a future for the organisation by accessing new and alternative funding streams and it is to their credit that the organisation is now about to launch several new exciting schemes that will benefit the most vulnerable members of our community.

UR is a very friendly, person centered organisation to work for, and it is one of the few who stands up for what it believes in, Putting the individual we support first. When you are working with people, colleagues or those we support you can never get it right all the time, but I have spent over 10 years working for UR and I feel they get it right more often than most. After all you do not do the work we do for the financial rewards, btu in this area I think UR is similar to others in the field, and when it comes to job security, in these times this is important and I have always felt secure, respected and valued.

Good management can make all the difference in how you feel about your work. My manager is passionate about their services and genuinely cares about the welfare of their staff and service users, which makes for a very positive and happy work environment.
Wages aren't the best but at least I feel secure and supported in my job. There are far worse companies out there.....ones who aren't quite so stringent on training their new and existing staff!
One unfortunate aspect of this work (not just united response) is staff who are in the job more for what they can get out of it rather than for what they can put into it.
Support work is extremely rewarding IF you have the right attitude and care more about people's welfare than money and status. If you want the latter then maybe support work just isn't for you.

There is a glass ceiling. If you are not of a certain skin colour you will not progress above a certain point no matter how well you do.
I have seen very effective Managers pushed out just because they "do not fit in".
All and I mean all my former colleagues who have moved on say I am mad for sticking around.

It's an easy job, with big rewards, I can work from home and in my own time. My manager is easy to get on with and always helps me out. 9/10! I get paid on the 15th of each month and it really depends on how much I work to how much I get paid.

I work in one of the 4 stores in the UK and love my job, it is The best retail job i have ever had!!!. It has a european style of managment,It dose not shout about Its prices, we let the customers make their own judgement.
With the stylish productswe sell, and the pleasant environment to shop and work in, with astonishingly low prices. It dose not mess around with prices, everything in our stores is priced at either £1, £2, £5 or £10.

Best job I have ever had. Only 1 manager needs to stop cutting moderators short and show more interest. CEO and everyone else is the best. Company policy allows for human error and everyone is very understand and helpful. A+ Company!
